The early use of supplemental screening for women with dense breasts cannot be overstated. It is paramount for early detection of breast cancer in these women, which in turn is key to survival. Dr. Paula Gordon, recipient of the Order of Canada, and one of the greatest Canadian specialists in breast cancer detection and diagnosis, is a powerful voice in this arena. You need to hear what she has to say. First, women need to know if they have dense breasts! Second, early diagnosis can lessen aggressive therapy or even eliminate the need for some treatments. However, it may surprise you that, not only are women not told their breast density, but secondary screening is also not as accessible as you might think. Change is necessary, and your voice can make a difference. Every woman should have the choice to self advocate for access to early screening modalities. It is a matter of LIFE.
